  Valle D'itria
Hotel Masseria Salamina is situated 4 km away from the Valley of Itria, which is territorially divided between the provinces of Bari, Brindisi and Taranto. The valley lies in a breathtaking position between Locorotondo and Martina Franca. It is a very pleasant valley scattered with trulli – cylindrical homes with conical roofs, examples of historical peasants’ spontaneous architecture....

The valley’s gently undulating hills are teeming with vineyards, both on the hills ad below them. On the hills you will find Locorotondo, Martina Franca, Cisternino, and a little further away, la Selva di Fasano.

The area is rich in oaks, which form small woodlands and fruit trees and brambles which are packed together between the dry stone walls which divide the fields. These walls are constructed from stone taken from the ground to obtain arable plots.  This abundant building material is also used for the construction of trulli.

The landscape is very pleasant, low hills on a horizon which is not dominated by other peaks, and this stage of the route between the Adriatic and Ionia retains its sense of peaceful nature.

In this area there are now downward slopes on the plain, wide pastures which allow large herds of donkeys and horses.
In the Middle Ages it was here that Serenissima sent the horses of his army to graze. The valley of Itria is reachable from Martina Franca, 29km from Taranto, but you can also reach it from Locorotondo, which is about sixty kilometres from Bari
