  Fasano and Zoosafari
Fasano was founded in the tenth century following the destruction of Egnatia and the exodus of its population to the countryside.
It benefits from one of the most favourable geographical locations, being a short distance from the sea and at the foot of the ridge which represents the first step of the Murge

freccetta

Just beyond, is the Canale di Pirro, a delightful valley which is one of the largest karstic depressions in the region
.
Over the centuries, the territory of Fasano has seen intense human activity which has partly changed the environmental characteristics, while respecting its fundamental characteristics. For example, today all the fields are planted with olive groves, orchards and vineyards, yet long stretches of Mediterranean scrubland are intact and on the top of the ridge survive oaks and pines.

The weather is perfect for a summer holiday, now popular in nearby towns such as the Selva di Fasano (which rises 396 above sea level and is reached by a panoramic road running from Fasano and spread over a path of seven kilometres; the forest is dotted with trulli, and has a vegetation of oak and laureto.

The proximity to the sea, with the beaches of Savelletri and Torre Canne represents a further incentive for those wishing to spend an enjoyable holiday in harmony with nature

Safari Park

But Fasano is also known throughout Europe for its Zoo safari. It is the largest wildlife park in Italy and one of the biggest in Europe based on the number of species.  It keeps roughly 1700 specimens of 200 different species in a Mediterranean safari covering approximately 140 hectares.
Starting  with just one section, the Fasanolandia safari park today includes:

- The dolphin arena, unique in Southern Italy with 2000 seats outside and 1000 inside;
- The Gorilla reserve, with the only two specimens in the Italian territory
- The monkey park, with numerous species of monkeys;
- The Metrozoo, a train that takes visitors to an oasis with waterfalls and animals such as bears, jaguars and panthers;
- The tropical room, with many species of fish and reptiles;
- Meeting room and shows;
- Amusement Park Fasanolandia, with 20 major attractions and rides.
